Life sentences for Christmas
subway stabbing
A violent robber who stabbed a tourist in a City subway in
December 2006, was given two life sentences at Woolwich Crown Court
today (1 Feb).
Kobir Ahmed, 32, of Garford Street, London E14, attacked the
victim in the underpass near Aldgate underground station on
December 30 2006.
The victim, a 64-year old man from Devon, was holidaying in the
capital with his partner when Ahmed followed them into the
underpass and stole his wallet. He then subjected the victim
to a violent attack, stabbing him four times in the chest and under
the arm with a large kitchen knife, which left him in intensive
care for several days.
The attack took place directly under a CCTV camera, and these
images assisted officers in identifying Ahmed as the attacker.
Ahmed was subsequently charged with five offences including
attempted murder, robbery, assault occasioning actual bodily harm,
possessing an offensive weapon and failing to provide a sample for
a class A drugs test.
Senior Investigating Officer, DCI Dave Service, said: “This was
a brutal and unprovoked attack on an innocent member of the public,
who is still suffering as a result of the attack. The fact
that Ahmed went on to stab his victim after robbing him shows how
vicious an assault this was.”
