Guilty verdict in City
shooting
A 27 year-old man who shot a fellow clubber in the City last
Christmas, was found guilty of unlawful wounding at the Old
Bailey yesterday (3 July).
Marcus Henry, 27, of Clapham fired shots at the victim following an
argument outside a City nightclub in the early hours of 16 December
last year.
The two men, who had both been at Departures nightclub in Jewry
Street, got involved in a verbal argument over the victim’s
girlfriend. The row escalated and Henry pulled a gun from his
trouser pocket and fired two shots one of which hit the victim in
the shoulder. Henry then got into a car and drove off but was
later arrested by City of London Police officers.
The victim, who was in his early 20’s, needed hospital treatment
but his injuries were not life threatening.
Marcus Henry, who was found not guilty of attempted murder,
was also found guilty of possession of a firearm with intent to
endanger life and guilty of possession of a
firearm.
Investigating Officer, Supt. Colin Cowan said:
“We were very lucky that the victim and the crowd around him
were not more seriously hurt. Marcus Henry came into the City
carrying a weapon which could have caused fatal injuries and which
he had no hesitation in using. Today’s verdict highlights the
fact that this level of violence will not be tolerated in the City
or anywhere else.”
Henry is due to be sentenced at the Old Bailey on July 25th.
