Current Crime Trends

Following a recent increase in Distraction Theft type offences, particularly in restaurant and pub premises, City of London Police ask that visitors to these areas take particular care of their personal possessions and to immediately report any suspicious behaviour. Operating as a team, sometimes including children and often with poor command of the English language, the offenders target mobile telephones and bags, using
various techniques to remove the items which include distracting the victim with the contents of a clipboard or by placing a newspaper or similar over an article before removing it. There is also a specific problem at the moment regarding thefts of bags, purses and wallets from licensed premises, especially coffee shops. This makes up a large proportion of crime, so please take great care with personal property at all times. We also have had 3 burglaries in the Temple area. Can everyone be vigilant, and if anything is seen which is suspicious, please call 999 immediately.
