Overview & brief
history
The ward of Cornhill is centrally located in the Square Mile and
stretches from Wormwood Street in the north to Cornhill in the
south. It is very much a high profile ward and is predominantly a
business area, with a mix of large organisations and small to
medium companies and retailers.
It is home to a number of very prestigious companies, buildings
and establishments, including Tower 42, The Merchant Taylor’s Hall
(Livery Company) and the Lion Plaza Development. The Gibson Hall
stands at the ward’s eastern end and The Royal Exchange stands at
the ward's western end containing prestigious shops and cafes. The
population is largely transient (over 15,000 work here). It has
some 400 registered voters (mostly business). Residentially, the
Ward is very small, with approximately only 15 in number.
