Council tax - annual notification

Annual council tax bills are issued in early April each year.

You are entitled to pay council tax by 10 monthly instalments, and if you wish by half-yearly or annual payments. The instalment arrangement is set out on the front of the bill. Payment methods available are detailed in the How to pay section.

If you become liable to pay council tax during the financial year, you will receive a council tax bill detailing the apportioned charge from the start of your liability until the 31 March next. As your bill will be issued part way through the financial year you may not be entitled to pay by 10 instalments. The number of instalments remaining and payment details will be detailed on your council tax bill.

If you have become liable for a property but have not yet registered for council tax please notify us of your change of circumstances.

What happens if I do not pay the council tax?

You will be sent at least one reminder to give you an opportunity to bring your instalment arrangement up to date. If you fail to keep to the arrangement the whole year's council tax will become due and payable. Failure to pay the outstanding sum, including any arrears, will result in court proceedings being instituted to obtain a liability order. Do not ignore any notices - tel 020 7332 1882 to discuss your problems.
