School Children
In the event of the Sir John Cass's Foundation Primary School
being closed due to a major incident, normal telephone
services may be affected or disconnected. If this is the
case parents are requested and directed to contact the school
through the Department of Community and Children's Services, City
of London on 020 7332 1750 or visit this
website for information.
This will enable that clear and accurate information may be
given or received which will allow the school to reopen as soon as
possible.
The school has plans in place to deal with incidents and these
are practised. Therefore the children and staff are able to remain
calm. If the school is evacuated the staff will make every effort
to contact parents when in a safe location on the emergency numbers
given for every child and staff member.
Emergency packs containing this information are stored ready to
be used and copies of the data are held by Senior members of the
Department of Community and Children's Services, City of
London.
Casualty bureau
When an incident occurs that involves a large number of
casualities, or is likely to result in a large number of telephone
calls from concerned friends and relatives, the police in the UK
normally open a
Casualty Bureau. When this happens the media
will publish the phone number.
The Casualty Bureau provides a central contact point for all
records and data relating to people who have or are believed to
have been involved. It is not intended as a general information
bureau, but is set up specifically to deal with missing persons,
survivors, evacuees and witnesses involved in the incident. The
Casualty Bureau is designed to receive and collate information not
give it out. However, when casualties or survivors are identified,
the enquirer is told as soon as possible following their call.
Please bear in mind the following when you ring:
- Do not ring the published number unnecessarily.
- Do ring if you have reason to believe that a relative or close
friend has been involved and you need to report them missing, or
you have information to give which may be of help to the Police
enquiries.
- Do let other friends and relatives know that you are ringing,
or have rung, so that they do not call unnecessarily in duplicating
the call.
- If your relative or friend turns up after you have reported
them missing, please ring back and let the Police know.
- If you call to report a missing person, please have as many
details about them as possible to hand. You will be asked questions
such as:
- ‘Why do you think they may be involved?’
- ‘What is their name and address?’
- ‘How old are they?’
- ‘Do you know their date of birth?’
- ‘What were they wearing?’
- ‘Who were they with?’
Please have this information to hand when you phone and be as
brief as possible when giving it.
If you are a survivor or evacuee please tell the Police:
- Where you were.
- Where you are.
- How you are.
- Details of your next of kin.
Incidents that require a casualty bureau to open generate
thousands of calls to the Police. The Police will deal with each
call as quickly as possible. Your call may be in a queue before
they are able to answer. Please remember that all callers will be
concerned, if not distressed, and that all are equally important.
In the event of this happening, please be patient.
