Banking
Code Standards Board
The Board’s job is to ensure that banks, building societies and
other providers of banking services comply with the Banking Codes.
Since its formation in 1999, the Board has also worked to interpret
and develop the Codes.
Competition Commission
An independent public body which conducts in-depth inquiries into
mergers, markets and the regulation of the major regulated
industries.
Financial
Services Authority (FSA)
The Financial Services Authority is an
independent body which regulates the financial services industry in
the UK. Its four main aims are to maintain confidence in the UK
financial system, to promote public understanding of the financial
system, to secure an appropriate degree of protection for consumers
and to contribute to the reduction of financial crime.
Financial Ombudsman Service
The Financial Ombudsman Service was set up by law as an independent
public body. Its job is to help settle individual disputes between
businesses providing financial services and their customers -
fairly, reasonably, quickly and informally.
Financial
Reporting Council (FRC)
UK's independent regulator with an aim to promote confidence in
corporate reporting and governance.
Legal Services
Ombudsman
The Legal Services Ombudsman oversees the handling of complaints
about lawyers in England and Wales, and contributes to the
development of standards of service and conduct in the legal
profession.
Local Government
Ombudsman
The Local Government Ombudsman investigates complaints of injustice
arising from maladministration by local authorities and certain
other bodies.
Office of Fair
Trading
The OFT's goal is to make markets work well for consumers.
The OFT's activities in pursuit of this goal involve enforcement of
competition and consumer protection rules; market studies into how
markets are working ; and communication to explain and improve
awareness and understanding.
Pensions Regulator, The
The Pensions Regulator is the regulator of work-based pension
schemes in the UK. It opened for business in April 2005, replacing
Opra, the Occupational Pensions Regulatory Authority.
Takeover Panel
The Panel on Takeovers and Mergers (the "Panel") is an independent
body, established in 1968, whose main functions are to issue and
administer the City Code on Takeovers and Mergers and to supervise
and regulate takeovers and other matters to which the Code applies.
Its central objective is to ensure fair treatment for all
shareholders in takeover bids.
