British diplomatic staff at posts overseas are an invaluable
resource for the promotion of UK-based financial and business
services, and for linking City expertise to other areas of trade
and development. In partnership with
UKTI, the joint agency between the Foreign
& Commonwealth Office and the Department for Business,
Enterprise and Regulatory Reform, the City of London co-ordinates a
programme of one-day courses for all officers doing commercial work
overseas. Twice a year, three-day courses covering City issues in
more depth are held for staff at a senior level, including some
going to post as HM Ambassadors of Deputy Heads of Mission.
The courses are held in the City of London's
City Marketing Suite at Guildhall, and are designed to produce
a general awareness of the size, scope and international nature of
the City in order to assist commercial staff in dealing with
financial services and inward investment queries, and to introduce
the participants to practitioners and trade associations in order
to foster links which will be of value to both sides in the
future.

received talks from, or visited, a wide range of business City
representatives. A welcome lunch and networking reception were also
