Waste is disposed of quickly and in an environmentally sound
manner via the waste transfer station within the City at Walbrook
Wharf. Waste is packaged into containers which are loaded on to
barges to be towed down the Thames by a tug for disposal. This use
of the river enables a single tug to carry out the work of dozens
of road vehicles without having any adverse impact on other London
boroughs, their road systems or residents.

Walbrook Wharf Waste Transfer Station is where waste collected
by the City of London, from residents and businesses’ in the City,
is taken for disposal.
The transfer station is located in:
Upper Thames Street
near Southwark Bridge
The transfer station is open 24 hours a day and is only closed
on Christmas Day.
If you collect commercial waste and are in need of a convenient
disposal facility, Walbrook Wharf may be the answer. The transfer
station can be used by tipping vehicles only.
Waste is compacted into ISO containers, taken down river for
disposal to landfill. The transfer station is operated by Cory
Environmental Ltd under Waste Management Licence Number
GTL/COR057.
