Tables and chairs

There has been an increase in demand in recent years from cafés, restaurants and pubs to place tables and chairs outside their premises.

The City of London encourages these facilities where appropiate and seeks to ensure that good quality, properly designed, outside seating areas are provided which benefit businesses and enhance the townscape. At the same time, the City of London seeks to ensure that the provision of such amenities does not cause a problem for other street users.

You can apply for a tables and chairs licence either online or via a  hardcopy application form to apply through the post.

Before completing the online application form you should read through the form and refer to the guidance notes below. This will give you both an overview of the procedure as well as enable you to determine precisely what details are required. It is much easier if you have all the information to hand before starting the process.
