Bartalk Spring 2011 (410kb)
2011 Safety Thirst Accredited Licensed
Premises (241kb)
Welcome to Safety Thirst
These awards are for licensed premises in the City of London.
The aim is to encourage and support pubs, clubs, bars and
restaurants to achieve the highest possible standards of safety and
security for customers and to minimise any impact on neighbours.
The Safety Thirst Awards, launched in February 2005, are open to
all pubs, clubs, bars and restaurants operating in the City of
London and promote those premises who make safety a
priority. The City of London Police, City of London and London Fire
Brigade will work in partnership with the licensing trade to
support efforts to meet the Safety Thirst Awards’ standards.
We want to reduce incidents of crime and disorder associated
with the excessive consumption of alcohol in City venues, whilst
promoting the City of London as a safe and inviting environment in
which to live, work, visit and socialise. The Safety Thirst Awards
will assess and, where necessary, provide guidance on the
following:
- Olympic Preparedness
- Good neighbourhood issues
- Closing time and transport
- Security and door policies
- Staff numbers, training, qualifications and
protection
- Staff Protection
- Design and management of premises for crime and drug
prevention
- Drink and drug policies
- Special events/promoted events
- Fire Safety
There are now 116 accredited licensed premises (bars, clubs and
restaurants) in the Safety Thirst scheme. A large number of
these received their awards at a ceremony in the Guildhall on
15 February 2011 - four of these were Highly
Commended, 32 Commended and 73 premises received
Accreditation for the work undertaken to reduce Crime and
Disorder in and around their premises. Only a few didn't quite make
the grade and were turned down by the assessment panel, but all
applicants were given individual tips as to how they could make
improvements in the coming year. A list of newly accredited
premises and the latest edition of bartalk can be viewed using the
links at the top of this page.
The 2012 scheme
We have now launched the 2012 Safety Thirst scheme,
this has an Olympic preparedness focus on the build up to
the games.
