It is important that people living and working in the City feel
that both their person and their property are safe.
Protecting people against crime has been set as a Safer
City Partnership priority because of the importance of
- The safety of residents, workers, visitors and tourists
- The economic impact on the City’s financial institutions
- The impact of crime, disorder and anti-social behaviour
- The significant impact on resourcing in prevention,
investigation and detection by the City of London Police and
others
- The impact on the image of the City and its
institutions.
Activities planned by the Safer City Partnership to
protect people against crime are:
- Set up Protecting People against Crime Thematic Group
- The City Police will continue operations to target theft and
violence at specific times and locations. The Safer City
Partnership will support these initiatives where appropriate.
- Activities and initiatives being implemented by other
partnership thematic groups (eg Taxi Marshalling, Safety Thirst,
etc.) should have a positive effect on theft and crimes of
violence.
- Raise awareness of theft and violence by producing a range of
materials for distribution
- Co-ordinate roadshows and visits to licensed premises, business
premises, cafes, shops, youth clubs, estate community centres and
libraries to promote awareness by distribution of relevant
literature
- Identification and monitoring of persistent prolific offenders
(PPOs) in order to assist with their removal from the crime
cycle
- Continue to implement the City of London Vehicle Crime
Reduction Action Team system to inform vehicle owners when
valuables have been left in their vehicles
- Promote the Immobilise scheme
- Coordinate information with partners to establish current crime
trends and oversee and develop action plans around current theft
hotspots
- Problem Profile regarding theft from person and shoplifting
resulting from the anticipated impact from increased retail
development in conjunction with Safer City Partnership
- Early engagement between developers and retailers to maximise
target hardening and crime reduction initiatives
- Continue to co-ordinate the Motor Vehicle Crime Partnership to
monitor crime trends, highlight areas of concern and formulate new
initiatives
- Liaison with licensees through the Safety Thirst scheme to
provide advice and guidance to bring about a reduction in theft in
licensed premises.
