Classic Cremated Remains Graves

Classic Cremated Remains GravesFor those who wish to bury the cremated remains of their loved one in an urn or casket rather than having them strewn into the soil of the memorial gardens there are several options, one of which is called a Private Classic Cremated Remains Grave.

These graves, which are a smaller version of the full size Classic Burial Graves, can accommodate approximately four to six caskets of cremated remains. Graves can be leased for five, 10 or 20 years with optional five year extensions available.

Select and purchase the lease of a Classic Cremated remains grave

The purchase of a grave is a highly emotive and individual matter and you are therefore strongly advised to only purchase the lease of one of these graves by visiting the cemetery (by appointment) and selecting the actual grave that you wish to lease. Pictures can only convey a rough idea of what the graves and the area look like. The way the grave faces, the background, the position in the row, all of these aspects of the grave will be a deciding factor in selecting a grave. There is no logical reason as to why one grave is more suited than another, but it is a fact that some people will take an instant liking or disliking to a grave dependent on something as simple as which way it faces.

Please contact the Burials Team at cityoflondoncemetery@cityoflondon.gov.uk to arrange an appointment to visit our grounds to make your selection or if you have any questions about our Classic Cremated Remains Graves.

Ordering a plaque

While in the office purchasing the lease of the grave many people speak with our trained Memorial Garden Team to organise a plaque to fit into the memorial. This is optional and you can if you prefer go to any memorial mason of your choice to commission a plaque.

In both cases the owner/s of the Rights of Burial in the grave must sign one of our permit forms before the plaque can be installed into the housing unit.

Please note most of the Classic Cremated Remains graves will only be used for the burial of two caskets of cremated remains and the plaques are ideal for two inscriptions. However, the grave can physically accommodate four to six caskets of cremated remains, so if you wish to put more cremated remains into the grave you will need to think carefully and plan the layout of the plaque to accommodate future inscriptions. If you do not take the future use of the grave into account you may well need to commission a complete new plaque to accommodate all inscriptions.

Contact our Memorial Garden Team, they will be only too pleased to assist you to design the plaque and answer any questions you may have.
