Young people - information and advice

Connexions logo

Connexions is a service for young people aged 13 - 19 (up to 25 for people with disabilities) to help with decisions about life, education and career choices.

Many young people under 19 will come to Connexions wanting advice about choosing school or college subjects or about looking for work, training or further education. However, other young people will have problems or barriers to overcome on the way to adulthood, and may require support and advice around Housing or Benefits with which we can also help and offer support.
Connexions is a confidential service that allows the young person to discuss whatever issues they feel are important to them in a relaxed non-judgmental setting.
We promise to

  • Listen and support you
  • Work with you to achieve your aims, goals and aspirations
  • Help you access and understand the advice, information and services available to you
  • Put you in touch with other specialist agencies

So, if you are aged 13 - 19 (up to 25 if you have a disability) and go to school, live or work in the Square Mile and you would like to speak to an adviser, or to find out when you can visit the Connexions Access Points call 020 7332 3617 or you can email youth.service@cityoflondon.gov.uk.

Trying to find out what college, training provider or sixth form offer what courses at what level?

Looking across London not just your local borough?

Got internet access?

Then the Choices website could be just what you need

So what is it?

A new online directory that allows young people to search and investigate which courses are offered where.

For example you want to study plumbing but not sure what the options are, well by using the CHOICE website you can simply type it in and it will bring up a list of related qualifications such as City and Guilds or NVQ, the length of the course, timeslots (ie daytimes or evenings), you can even put in your postcode and find the ones nearest to you.

There is also a browsing area so if you know the sector like Arts, Media and Publishing but not the specific subject you can find out more and research which one suits you the most.

Then what?

So you find the course and the places that do it - you can then go straight to the school, college or training providers website and find out about any Open Days, Application forms, deadlines and any other information that you might find useful. There’s even a journey planner to help you find your way there.

Interested?

Take a look at the CHOICE website, remember it's never too early or late to apply as most colleges and training providers will still take applications throughout the summer, although the sooner the better as the more popular courses tend to fill up fast!

For any further help relating to the website, or if you would like to find out about our drop in sessions around the City or arrange to speak to an adviser about anything from job seeking, EMA, and application forms please call 020 7332 3617.
