The City of London has established offices in Beijing and
Shanghai to strengthen trading and investment links in both
directions between China and the UK through the provision of world
class financial services and products.
These representations build on the City of London’s longstanding
engagement with the Chinese financial services sector, including
regular
Lord Mayoral visits and hosting regular visits to Guildhall and
the Mansion House by Chinese government officials and businesses.
As part of this ongoing commitment to strengthen links with China,
the City of London has published ‘Scenarios for India and China
2015: Implications for the City of London’.
Read the press release.
The specific functions of the representations are to:
- promote the services of the City to Chinese public and private
sector customers - including the raising of capital, insurance,
asset management, infrastructure finance and consultancy, London’s
exchanges, business education & training and legal &
advisory services;
- facilitate the business development of City firms by providing
support for their visits – through making introductions, arranging
programmes, providing briefing material and making available space
for meetings;
- gain and disseminate information on market opportunities for
City firms;
- identify formal or informal barriers to market access for
financial and related business services, so that action to overcome
them can more readily be taken by the relevant authorities;
- promote the UK as a physical location for representation and
investment by Chinese financial services companies within the
European time zone;
- assist FCO Posts in planning and arranging future visits by the
Lord Mayor and by our Chairman of Policy and Resources, as well as
directly supporting visits by other City of London Corporation
members and staff;
- support appropriate visits by Chinese decision-makers to the UK
by identifying and assisting suitable visitors, and by encouraging
a well-informed City response to such visitors.
