Chief Commoner
The Lord Mayor
The Lord Mayor is the head of the City of
London and presides over its governing bodies, the Court of
Aldermen and the Court of Common Council. He has a separate but
complementary role to the
Mayor of London, Boris Johnson, who is the head of the
strategic government of Greater London.
Elected annually, the Lord Mayor is also:
- Chief Magistrate of the City of London
- Admiral of the Port of London
- President of the City of London Reserve Forces and Cadets
Association
- Trustee of St Paul's Cathedral
- Chancellor of the City University
- President or Patron of many other civic and charitable
organisations
- He also presides over Her Majesty's Commission of Lieutenancy
for the City of London
As well as these roles, the Lord Mayor has a much wider business
role, working for the UK as a whole, and supporting the City of
London as the world's leading international financial and business
centre. He travels extensively both in the UK and around the world
at the request of the Foreign and Commonwealth Office, fostering
goodwill and boosting UK trade, particularly the markets and
services of the City of London.

Chairman, Policy and Resources Committee
The Policy and Resources Committee oversees and co-ordinates the
policy direction of the City of London.
The Chairman's body of work is varied and currently
includes:
- implementing the reform of the City’s voting system
- representing the 'Square Mile' and the City of
London’s views to Westminster, Whitehall and Brussels
- working in neighbouring boroughs and London to help
regeneration and economic development
The Chairman is a member of the Court of Common Council and is
annually elected - like all committee chairman - by members of the
committee.
The current Chairman of the Policy and Resources Committee is
Mark Boleat. He has been a Councillor in the City representing the
Ward of Cordwainer since 2002. He was Deputy Chairman of the Policy
and Resources Committee from May 2009 to May 2012 and was Chairman
of the Markets Committee from 2008 to 2011. In addition to the
Policy & Resources Committee he is a member of the Police;
Establishment; Finance; Markets; Investment; and Culture, Heritage
and Libraries Committees. He represents the City on the boards of
TheCityUK, Centre London Forward, London Councils and London and
Partners.

Committee
One of the principal roles of the Finance Committee is to ensure
that the City of London achieves value for money in all its
activities.
The Chairman provides careful stewardship of the City of
London’s funds and controls a number of functions which are of
fundamental importance to the City of London and the way in which
it works.
The current Chairman of the Finance Committee is Roger Arthur
Holden Chadwick. Roger Arthur Holden Chadwick is a Common
Councilman for the Ward of Tower.

Chief Commoner
The historic office of Chief Commoner is a one year post, where
the holder represents and champions the rights, needs and
privileges of the Commoners within the Court of Common Council. By
virtue of this role, the Chief Commoner takes a lead in relation to
Members’ requirements for the efficient conduct of City Corporation
business; takes a lead in relation to scrutiny of the training and
development opportunities offered to Members; actively promotes the
aims, values and responsibilities of the City of London Corporation
both internally and externally; and takes a lead in relation to
matters of hospitality.
The post of Chief Commoner is currently held by Kenneth Edwin
Ayres MBE, the Deputy for the Ward of Bassishaw.
