Forthcoming City of London elections

Election of Sheriffs

Liverymen who appear on the Common Hall Register 2009 are entitled to vote at this election.  At Common Hall on Wednesday 24 June a poll was demanded which will take place on Wednesday 8 July 2009 at Guildhall, London, EC2 between the hours of 8am and 6pm.  Please note there are no provisions for postal or proxy voting at this election.

Aldermanic vacancy - Ward of Cornhill

The deadline for nominations has now passed.  Sir David Howard is the only validly nominated candidate and therefore this election is uncontested.  The results will be announced at the Wardmote on 16 July 2009, as detailed in the Notice of Election.  All voters of the Ward are welcome at the Wardmote to meet their Alderman and raise any concerns or questions.

Aldermanic vacancy - Ward of Bishopsgate

There is currently a vacancy of an Alderman in the Ward of Bishopsgate due to the resignation of Alderman Sir Michael Oliver, who does not intend to seek re-election.  As there are persons who submitted notifications of interest to the Town Clerk who were not already a Justice of the Peace on the City Bench, the date of the election will be set when their applications to the Lord Chancellor's Advisory Committee are determined.

Please note that Sir Michael Oliver will remain in office until 31 July 2009, unless the date of the election is sooner.

Aldermanic vacancy - Ward of Walbrook

There is currently a vacancy of an Alderman in the Ward of Walbrook due to the resignation of Alderman David Mauleverer, who does not intend to seek re-election.  As there are persons who submitted notifications of interest to the Town Clerk who were not already a Justice of the Peace on the City Bench, the date of the election will be set when their applications to the Lord Chancellor's Advisory Committee are determined.

Please note that Alderman Mauleverer will remain in office until his successor is elected.
