What are the elections for?
These elections are to vote for the Mayor of London, a
constituency member of the London Assembly and a London-wide member
of the London Assembly. For more information on the structure of

There will be three ballot papers for the elections – one for
the Mayor of London, one for a constituency member for the London
Assembly and one for a London member of the London Assembly. For

The City of London is in the City and East constituency which
also comprises Tower Hamlets, Newham and Barking and Dagenham.
How do I know if I am registered to vote?
In mid-January we sent out letters to all households in the City
of London confirming the details we hold on the Register of
Electors – this included the names, nationalities and if people had
a postal vote. If you are still not sure if you are registered to
vote then you can call our freephone helpline on 0800 587 5537 or

How can I register to vote?
To vote in these elections you must be registered to vote by
Wednesday 16 April 2008. You can register to vote
by going to
www.aboutmyvote.co.uk,
entering your postcode and downloading a form. They must be
returned to Electoral Services Office, City of London, PO Box 270,
Guildhall, London EC2P 2EJ by 16 April 2008. If you would like a
form sent to you in the post please call our freephone helpline on
0800 587 5537.
Postal voting
If you do not wish to vote in person at your polling station you
can apply to vote by post. The deadline for applying to vote by
post is 5.00pm on Wednesday 16 April. If you apply
to vote by post your ballot papers will be sent to you between 18
April and 24 April. Once you have applied to vote by post you
cannot vote in person at the polling station but you may deliver
your completed postal vote to the polling station. To find out

services. Please note that 5.00pm on 16 April is also the
deadline if you wish to cancel your postal vote or make any
amendments to the current details.
Proxy voting
If you are out of the country, or unable to vote in person for
medical or employment reasons, you may be able to appoint a proxy
to vote on your behalf. The deadline for proxy applications for
these elections is 5.00pm on Wednesday 23 April. For more

The count
The votes will be counted electronically on 2 May 2008 at
London’s ExCel centre. It is hoped that the results will be
available in the evening on 2 May. The results will be published at
www.londonelects.co.uk.
