Assessment procedures

Revised assessment procedures for those wishing to stand for Office as an Alderman, Sheriff or the Lord Mayor have been introduced.

The objectives of the new procedures are to

  • provide clear information for those contemplating standing for Office as to what the role of an Alderman, Sheriff and Lord Mayor involves; and,
  • enhance the appraisal process for an Alderman who seeks to be elected as a Sheriff or Lord Mayor.

Alderman Sir David Howard’s letter to the Livery (March 2005) and slide presentation describe the new procedures and set them in context.

A further letter was sent January 2006 notifying the Livery companies that the Privalages Committee of the Court of Alderman had agreed to support the candidacy of Mr Alderman and Sheriff John Stuttard for the 2006/7 Mayoralty.
