Parents' Strategy

The City of London and its partners in the Children & Young People’s Strategic Partnership are working together through the Children & Young People’s Plan.  As part of our partnership working and in consultation with parents we have developed a Parents’ Strategy that enables partners to take a more planned and joined up approach to providing services that support parents in the vital role of helping their children to be safe, happy, healthy and to achieve their full potential.

The Strategy promotes the approach that all agencies and organisations working with parents need to recognise parents as equal partners in achieving the best outcomes for children and their key role in shaping the services that are provided.

Our vision

We aim to achieve a future in which any parent in the City who needs information, advice and support to help their children achieve will know where to turn and be able to benefit from a range of appropriate and accessible services.

We believe that:

  • all parents need easy access to good up-to-date information on the services available to them in bringing up their children
  • parents should be able to take part in the planning and evaluation of the services that they use
  • the City of London and its partners must agree the most important priorities to meet local need so that support for parents can be tailored to their needs and available at the time they need it

The Parents’ Strategy will enable us to:

  • support parents in the vital role of helping their children to be safe, happy and healthy and achieve their full potential;
  • provide a consistent approach to supporting parents; and
  • enable parents to be engaged in and contribute to services provided for children and young people.

The Strategy is a statement of what we are committed to achieving and how we are going to achieve it. It will be a working document that highlights progress and current priorities and will be supported by an action plan that will change and develop as the work is taken forward. It will set out the different levels of support available from universal through preventative and early intervention services to the use of compulsory measures. A particular aim of the strategy will be to help close the gap in life chances between the most disadvantaged children and others.

The Parents’ Strategy was completed in April 2008. Click on the link to view the full document  City of London Parents Strategy - April 2008.pdf (181kb)

We are currently working on producing a summary of the main points of the strategy which will be made available as soon as it si completed.
