The Sonpar/Dicks Awards 2008

August 2007

Spring 2008 will see the second of the Sonpar/Dicks Awards. The Sonpar/Dicks Awards are organised annually by the City of London’s Family and Young People’s Service in conjunction with HSBC Bank. The purpose of the Award is to support and commend people working with children for their dedication to developing their skills and abilities and recognises the positive impact this has on children’s lives.

The Sonpar/Dicks Award is named after two of the founder members of the City of London Early Years Development & Childcare Partnership (EYDCP). Jenny Dicks, a nursery manager, and Pushpa Sonpar, a childminder, died within two months of each other in the summer of 2006.

The winner of the 2007 Awards was Play Practitioner Marlon Gibbins who has been working as a Play Practitioner for four years. Marlon said, "In this business-focused district, Children’s Services can seem to be invisible. I am thankful for the Sonpar/Dicks Award which has raised the profile of our work"
