City of London Early
Years Development and Childcare Partnership
In 1998 the government established a National Childcare Strategy
covering early education and out of school / holiday provision for
children aged 0 - 19 (upto 25 if a young person has special
needs). Existing Early Years Development Partnerships were extended
to cover children in the 0-19 age group and were renamed Early
Years Development and Childcare Partnerships. The City EYDCP was
set up at this time.
The overall aim of the City EYDCP is to ensure that there is
affordable, accessible, good quality early education and childcare
available across the City which meets the needs of all parents and
children. The partnership brings together a range of service
providers and other stakeholders to develop an integrated approach
to the development of good services for children and young people
and their parents, and is currently looking at ways of improving
the participation of employers and businesses.

Childcare Sufficiency Survey
The City of London recently carried out a Childcare Sufficiency
Assessment to determine whether there is sufficient childcare
available to allow parents/carers in the City to work or train.
Under the Childcare Act 2006, local authorities are required to
carry out and publish such an assessment every three years and to
review progress annually.
