Epping Forest Visitor Centre


Epping Forest Visitor CentreThe Epping Forest Visitor Centre is now open seven days a week and has an extensive stock of 'woodland gifts', soft toys, local crafts, books and booklets. Staff are on hand to answer your every query about the Forest.

The Visitor Centre should be your first port of call to find out about the facilities the Forest has to offer. You can apply for a Riding License or pick up information from our selection of leaflets and guides. It also our booking office for a variety of events including guided walks, children's activities and open-air theatre.

Don't miss the children's table, viewing point for the bird feeder, handling collection of natural finds and our digital displays.

Opening hours

Summer (April - September): 11.00am - 6.00pm
Winter (October - March: 10.00am - 3.00pm

The Centre is open seven days a week including Bank Holidays. It is closed on Christmas Day.

Forest Festival on Chingford Plain, off Bury Road, E4
Epping Forest Visitor Centre and Temple closed

Our annual ‘Forest Festival’ returns to Chingford Plain, on Sunday 7 September and so we will be closing Epping Forest Visitor Centre, High Beach and The Temple, Wanstead Park for the day.

If you’d planned to visit one of the Centres why not join us at the Forest Festival instead? It’s a very popular event and a great day out with The Knights of Middle England’s jousting display, special historical re-enactments at Queen Elizabeth’s Hunting Lodge, local crafts, hog roast, community stalls and much, much more.

Public transport: A few minutes’ walk from Chingford train and bus station

Fungi Licensing Scheme

We regret to announce that the Fungi Licensing Scheme for Epping Forest has been suspended (operative from 1 October 2007).

We would like to remind you that picking or removing anything from the Forest is an offence under the Epping Forest Byelaws.

Licences are currently granted for fungi research or organised educational fungi courses only: please contact Epping Forest Visitor Centre, tel 020 8508 0028 to discuss your educational needs. Licenses will not be issued for personal or private consumption.

Please be aware that our Forest Keepers will be closely monitoring this situation.
