Meeting the birds
On Saturday 6 and Sunday 7
December join in with the RSPB's Aren't Birds
Brilliant days between 10.30am and 3pm at the Bird
Sanctuary Pond. 020 7482 7073 for details.
Migrant birds
Keep an eye out for the last few finches, pipits and
swallows passing through. Such migrant birds use the Heath as
a 'service station' on their way south. Meanwhile, wintering
wildfowl are starting to arrive with increased numbers of tufted
duck, pochard and shoveler already apparent. The first
wintering thrushes - redwings and fieldfares - have already
been seen on Heath hedgerows.
Barbeques: please note
Owing to problems with littering, scorching and risk of fire we
regret that barbeques are not permitted on
Hampstead Heath.
Water temperature for swimmers
Lido: 9°C; Ladies' Pond: 8°C; Men's Pond: 8°C,
as of 20 November 2008.
Further information about swimming.

Reptile Trust) are surveying our population of rare grass snakes to
help us work out how best to conserve them. If you have seen a
snake on the Heath, please tell us more about it by either filling
in our
online wildlife sightings form (32kb)
or by downloading and filling in the form below, then posting
it to:

Photos at the Lido
A collection of photographs celebrating the sights and sounds of
the Parliament Hill Lido is currently on display there. In Lido
Life, local photographer Ruth Corney charts recent times at the
Grade II listed pool, including its recent £2.9million renovation
with a selection of underwater shots that show off the Lido’s new
stainless steel lining with its wonderful reflective qualities.
