What is the Evidence Base?
The Evidence Base is a compilation of documents used to support
and justify policy formulation.
Local authorities are required to base their planning policies
on sound evidence. The aim is that a local authority will be
able to demonstrate a thorough understanding of its area by
assessing trends, strategies, local needs, opportunities and
constraints. These must be supported by
evidence.
The Evidence Base therefore consists of a range of documents
that set the planning policy context, and studies which analyse the
demographic, economic, social and environmental factors.
These documents will be used in the preparation of the Local
Development Framework to ensure that ‘sound’ policies are
produced.
