Unitary Development Plan 2002

Planning Policy

The City of London prepares plans and policies that set out its strategy for shaping the Square Mile. The plans guide the City in deciding planning applications and drawing up proposals for enhancing the environment and managing traffic.

Unitary Development Plan

The Unitary Development Plan (UDP) is the current plan for the City. It was adopted in 2002 and sets out the City’s policies for planning and transportation.

Local Development Framework

The City is preparing a new plan called the Local Development Framework (LDF). The LDF will eventually supersede the UDP. It will contain a series of documents that together set out the City’s planning strategy. Production of the most important of these, the Core Strategy, is currently underway, and there are opportunities to participate in its preparation.

Supplementary Planning Guidance

Some of the UDP’s policies are explained in more detail in supplementary planning guidance and other advice.
