The City seeks to preserve and enhance historic buildings and areas in the Square Mile.

Conservation areas

Conservation areas are designated to safeguard areas of special architectural and historic interest.  There are twenty six Conservation Areas in the City.

Listed buildings

There are nearly 600 listed buildings and other structures in the City. These are protected for their architectural and historic interest.

Archaeology

The City is an area of great archaeological importance. Archaeology is an important consideration affecting many development proposals.
