Recycling - information and advice


Recycling will help save natural resources, protect the environment and the income earned by the City of London from the sale of materials for recycling helps to maintain other services.

Household recycling

We provide a commingled recycling service, which means you can put all qualifying materials into one household clear sack.  Acceptable materials are:

  • Paper - all types of paper (not contaminated with food) including office paper, envelopes, newspaper, magazines, phone directories and books.
  • Card - cardboard packaging and boxes.
  • Glass - glass bottle and jars of all colours.
  • Cans - clean food and drinks cans.  Empty aerosol cans.
  • Plastic Bottles - including those for water, milk or cleaning products.
  • Mixed Plastics - this includes plastic containers (eg yoghurt pots, ice cream tubs, food trays and salad bags).

These are provided free to residents through the appropriate estate office or for other residences on request to the Contact Centre, please telephone 020 7606 3110 or email waste.collection@cityoflondon.gov.uk

Household Food Waste Recycling

The City of London also provides a food waste collection service to all residential properties.  For more information see the food waste collection page.

Commercial recycling

Commercial recycling logo  If required the City of London will arrange waste collections for businesses operating within its boundaries.  For enquiries please contact waste.collection@cityoflondon.gov.uk or call 020 7606 3110.
