The City of London is committed to
promoting Corporate Responsibility. The Square Mile is arguably the
UK’s most prestigious and dynamic area, yet it is surrounded by
some of the most deprived neighbourhoods in the country.
The City Corporation works closely with public, private and
community sector bodies to ensure that the City and the City fringe
boroughs are an inclusive and thriving places to be.
This responsibility is fulfilled through involvement in a number
of initiatives including:
-
Heart of the City - a free support programme for businesses in
the City and City fringes that are interested in developing a
Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) programme.
-
City Action for Community Development - a free employee
volunteering broker service for City-based businesses.
-
The Local Procurement Project - a free advice service to
City-based businesses looking to adopt a local purchasing
strategy.
-
The Lord Mayor’s Dragon Awards - an awards programme for
businesses and public bodies in Greater London with exemplary
Corporate Community Involvement activities.
-
Employee Volunteering Programme - a programme for the City
Corporation which offers all employees two working days per year to
volunteer with community groups in the City and its neighbouring
boroughs.
-
Partnerships - as part of a broader programme contributing to
the economic regeneration of the City fringes, the Partnerships
team assists City businesses looking to engage young people through
introducing them to City-type careers; and works with City
businesses to maximise access to employment opportunities for City
fringe residents.

The Impact of City Businesses in addressing Social
Disadvantage
This report, by Oxford Economics, has been commissioned by the
City of London Corporation in collaboration with Heart of the City
to investigate the social and economic impact of Corporate
Community Investment programmes of the Financial and Professional
Business Services sector. The report considers different
approaches to impact measurement, uses existing datasets to
estimate the financial contribution (inputs) that these companies
make, investigates direct outputs, and uses a number of case
studies to illustrate the effect these programmes have had within
the wider community (the social return on investment).
