Inspire!

Inspire!, the Education Business Partnership (EBP) for Hackney, links local businesses and their employees with schools and colleges in Hackney. Inspire! has been operating since November 2004 and delivers a range of programmes that help young people in Hackney to learn about the world of work and to develop skills that enhance their employability .

Inspire! also aims to raise the aspirations of the young people in relation to achieving their learning goals and chosen career path and is currently delivering the Careers Open House programme, in partnership with other local EBPs, with funding from the City of London Corporation. This programme aims to open students’ eyes to the wealth of opportunity on their doorstep in the City. Inspire! provides other services and programmes for schools and colleges in Hackney, including:

  • Work Experience places - providing students with two week or extended placements with local or City employers, including placements linked to particular vocational courses;
  • Work Related Learning (WRL) and enterprise programmes - supporting secondary schools in meeting the new statutory requirement to give all students WRL. Inspire! offers interview skills days, a range of enterprise activities and support for staff in planning their provision;
  • Support for vocational programmes - strengthening employer engagement and developing enrichment activities to help students gain the most from their vocational courses;
  • Projects for young people at risk of becoming disengaged - providing longer-term programmes to motivate and support young people to develop their employability skills and make positive post-16 choices;
  • Teacher placements in workplace settings - enabling school staff to gain a greater understanding of the business world;
  • Primary mentoring - weekly visits to primary schools by employee volunteers. Volunteers provide support to children on a one-to-one or small group basis and assist in a range of lessons including English, Maths, ICT etc;
  • Team challenges - teams of employees undertake practical tasks to enhance the environment of Hackney schools and improve learning resources – typical tasks include helping children to paint a mural on a school wall.
