The City of London Corporation
funds a wide range of regeneration projects in the boroughs
neighbouring the Square Mile, as well as developing and
commissioning its own initiatives in partnership with local
expert bodies. It also provides in-kind support
(including hosting events, advice and guidance, officer and
Member representation on boards and committees) to a wide
range of organisations delivering regeneration initiatives in
the City. These projects are grouped under the following
themes:
In addition to its involvement with regeneration partnerships,
the City of London provides support to a range of organisations
delivering projects in the Square Mile’s neighbouring boroughs. The
assistance provided for regeneration projects is varied, ranging
from grants to organisations and membership subscriptions, to
representation on boards and committees by City of London Members
and Officers and in-kind support, such as hosting conferences.
The City of London supports a diverse range of projects,
covering a range of issues, including business enterprise
and inward investment, education, training and
skills development, employment,
the physical environment and
transport.
The City of London also develops its own initiatives where we
have identified areas of particular need and which relate to our
objectives for the Square Mile. Our flagship initiative, the
City of London Business Traineeship Programme
(CBT), secures paid traineeships of up to 13 weeks in City firms
for 17-19 year old school/college leavers of ‘A’ level standard,
who are interested in working within the Financial Services, IT,
Legal and Business Administration sectors. The CBT programme fits
in with the City of London’s overall objective of improving access
to City jobs for residents of neighbouring boroughs.
The City of London recognises the enormous potential for
procurement to stimulate the economies of neighbouring boroughs.
Vibrant and competitive local economies will be an important
contributor to sustainable regeneration in the City fringes and
neighbouring boroughs. The
Local Procurement Project aims to increase the amount of money
that the Square Mile spends in these boroughs.
