The Cheapside Area Strategy includes a range of environmental and transport improvements for the Cheapside area, together with proposals for cultural and leisure opportunities.  The aim is to create a vibrant and attractive environment that will support the renewed Cheapside as the main retail centre in the City.

A public consultation on the Strategy will run from 17 July 2008 until 1 September 2008. An exhibition of the proposals will be on display in the Guildhall Ambulatory during this time (entrance off Aldermanbury).

The Street Scene Challenge plays a key role in fulfilling the City of London’s commitment to improving the City’s streets and creating a refined and legible urban environment for the City’s residents, workers and visitors.

Each year £1 million is available to fund a wide range of joint initiatives to enhance the street scene, using high quality design and materials.

Whilst every scheme is different, in general Street Scene Initiative schemes are funded by a partnership between the City of London and an interested party such as a developer, building owner, or Transport for London. The City of London's contribution will vary but if the funding is derived from parking income which must by law be spent on highway improvements.

The City of London is committed to continually improving the appearance and function of the City’s streets, to provide a high quality environment that is fitting for the world’s leading financial and business centre.
