Child Protection Service

Two young sisters huggingThe Children's Services Team is responsible for ensuring all children and young people in the City are safe and protected from harm.

If you suspect ill treatment of a child or young person, or if you are being hurt or abused contact us on 020 7332 1224 to speak to a social worker or email social.services@cityoflondon.gov.uk.

Where concern has been expressed about an individual, social workers must look into what is happening and make enquiries to check that the child is safe. We will try to work in partnership with parents and carers and keep them involved in what is happening.

In most situations help and advice can be sufficient to sort out the problems. It is rare for social services to have to consider removing a child from their family to protect them.

Laming Inquiry Inspection

Following the report of the Laming Inquiry into the death of Victoria ClimbiƩ in Haringey, the Secretary of State for Health wrote to all Chief Executives stating the need for Councils to be satisfied that appropriate arrangements were in place to ensure the quality of service to children in need and, in particular, those children in need of protection.

We returned our self-assessment to the Department of Health which was evaluated by our Link Inspector. We were evaluated as "serving children well" with "promising" prospects.  Out of the seven standards we received the highest rating for five of them and "promising" for the other two.
