There are a number of reduced-rate travel services available to
people living in the City of London. Read on to find out what
is available and how to apply.
Hospital transport
If your GP decides that you need hospital transport to get to
your appointment or inpatient stay, they will arrange this for your
first visit. The hospital doctor will then arrange transport
for any further appointments.
PlusBus scheme
PlusBus is a service run by Hackney/Islington Community
Transport. It is a fully accessible 'Hail and Ride' bus
service that runs every 30 minutes Mondays to Fridays between the
hours of 9.00am - 5.00pm. It operates on eight fixed routes
and a fixed timetable.
To use the service you need to be a member. Membership
costs £1 and the service is free of charge after this. To be
eligible for this service you must simply find it difficult to use
and or/access mainstream public transport. This could range
from having a disability, being old, elderly or frail, having a
learning difficulty or being a parent with a buggy and small
children.
The routes serve health centres, leisure facilities, resource
centres, community centres, libraries, supermarkets, transport
links and roads that are inaccessible to other forms of
transport. Drivers are trained, professional and friendly and
will assist users on and off with shopping, buggies and will wait
until everyone is safely seated before pulling away.
