If you are a secure or assured tenant and you would like to move
home a Home Exchange might be the answer for you.
A Home Exchange or Mutual Exchange is an exchange of homes
arranged between tenants with their landlords' permission. It can
be a straight swap of two tenants or it could involve three or four
parties.
Finding a home exchange
At the moment there are a number of ways in which you can search
for another tenant to swap with:
- All council and Registered Social Landlord tenants can register
with HOMESWAP run by
HOMES (Housing Organisations Mobility Scheme).
- You can advertise in Newsagents windows or a classifieds
newspaper like Loot.
- If you are a Registered Social Landlord Tenant, you can ask
your landlord if they keep a printed list of people wanting an
exchange to your area.
Once you and your exchange partner have viewed each other's
homes, it's up to you whether you want to move or not. But
remember, you will always need your landlords' permission or you
could put your home at risk.
