What is sheltered housing?
Sheltered housing is a group of unfurnished self-contained homes
specially designed for the elderly. The aim is to provide
independent secure accommodation with additional social and
domestic facilities.
Independence and security
Residents enjoy the opportunity of living independently in their
own self-contained flat whilst also being part of a small secure
community. Intercom systems ensure residents' homes are secure and
only invited guests can gain access.
Support and care
Scheme Managers are on call between 8.00am and 4.00pm Monday to
Friday, except Bank Holidays, to help and assist with any problems.
Each flat is linked to a 24 hour community alarm system which
provides around the clock emergency
cover. Scheme Managers maintain daily contact with
the residents to check their well being.
Environment and activities
All schemes have well maintained communal gardens, including
fish ponds, which residents can enjoy in the good weather.
Residents also have the opportunity to do gardening
themselves. Scheme Managers arrange regular social events
including trips out, parties, bingo and darts. There are also
communal lounge areas where residents can meet and chat.
Concessionary TV licence
This is currently available for all residents over retirement
age and costs £7.50 per year. Your Scheme Manager will give you all
the details.
