Programmes to promote the development of learning communities, ensure local people have access to lifelong learning and training opportunities, provide local people with opportunities to gain skills needed for employment in growth industries and ensure residents benefit from employment opportunities created within the area.
New deal traineeships
New Deal is a key part of the government's Welfare to Work strategy. Personalised programmes of work and skills training opportunities, delivered locally, are aimed at helping unemployed people into work.
School - work experience placements
Pupils from the start of year ten can take part in work experience which allows pupils to learn about the world of work and experience the key skills needed in the workplace. The LEA assists pupils in finding a placement and offers support and advice for pupils during their placement.
Sports - coaching
Providing courses and schools to assist local people in becoming qualified coaches in a range of sports and activities. This may also include associated courses such as first-aid, child protection etc.
