Zoë McMillan
2-29 July
Barbican Library Foyer
Zoë is a Chartered Building Surveyor who specialises in historic
buildings, and is a Barbican resident. Her still life
paintings often feature china and fabrics with strong patterns,
which she particularly enjoys painting. After many years of
being dissatisfied with her attempts to paint buildings, these,
particularly churches, now form part of her work. In addition
to pure watercolour, Zoë also now works in water-based dyes and
mixed media, which she feels gives the opportunity for bolder and
freer work.

Philip Briant
1 – 27 August
Barbican Library Arts Area
Philip Briant comes from Shoeburyness in Essex. After leaving
school he started work in the City, where he has remained to this
day. He has continued to paint and sketch places he has been
to, either from real life or from photos.
As well as landscapes he has also painted flowers, though not to
the point of becoming a botanical artist, with its demand for
exactness and detail.
Working principally in watercolour, he has not dismissed the idea
of trying oils or pastels, both of which might prove a welcome
change of technique.
