Talks

There are no refreshment facilities within the Gallery itself, but there are many restaurants, sandwich shops and wine bars in the neighbourhood which are open weekday lunchtimes as well as the cafeterias and restaurants of the Museum of London and the Barbican Centre which remain open at weekends.

These are: A Prospect of the City from the North circa 1730 (English School), Smithfield Market (attributed to John Paul 1804 -1887) and The Metropolitan Cattle Market c.1855 (William Henry Davis c.1793-c.1865).

For the past few months we have been celebrating the Victorians and available to download is our extensive and highly informative education pack entitled The Victorians focusing on twenty-four works in the Gallery and covering such topics as:

  • Queen Victoria
  • A variety of Victorian street scenes that also illustrate developments in transport
  • Depictions of society and family life
  • Victorian children
  • Politics
  • Industralisation
  • Art in Victorian Britain

These topics provide a rich illustration of Victorian life corresponding to many areas within the National Curriculum.

School bookings must be made in advance. There is no charge for School Groups; other groups (10 - 35 persons) receive a 20% discount off the normal admission price. Books about the Gallery and its collections are available from the Sales and Information desk at a cost of £6.95 each. A publication entitled Lifting the Lid on Art which includes a customised supplement about the Gallery is also available at £12. Guildhall Art Gallery does not provide an education service but the curatorial staff will be pleased to advise or assist at visits.
