Family learning resource pack - Archive Adventures!
Introduction– The Background to the Archives Adventures
Project.
Access to Archives (A2A) aims to provide access to archives
through the catalogues drawn up by archivists across England. A2A
allows you to search across catalogues through a single website.
A2A is funded by the Heritage Lottery Fund (HLF). Visit
www.a2a.org.uk to find out more.
Flesh and Blood was one of London's final regional projects
under A2A. It brought together fifteen institutions and covered a
wide range of fascinating records of interest in family, political
and social history and local studies. The main themes of the
project took in two areas of growing research, namely medical and
health-related collections and records relating to individuals and
families.
Family Learning And The Flesh and Blood Project
A very important aim of the project was increased access to
archives through the development of learning opportunities for
families. Over the summer of 2006 a series of events were organised
based on archive material.
The sessions involved storytelling and practical art and craft
activities. The work was co-ordinated by London Metropolitan
Archives as lead partner and project managed by Ruth Singer, a
freelance consultant. This pack, written by Ruth and fellow
freelancer Laura Coughlin, sets out the development process behind
the events and shares a wide range of ideas which can be used by
other archives.
We hope you find it useful.
