The Royal Society for the Prevention of Accidents national cycling proficiency test is offered free to children over the age of nine to help develop their essential cycling skills, often through their school and generally administered through the City of London. The City of London is also introducing cycle training for adults.

The national proficiency test helps to develop observation and manoeuvrability skills, introduces the Highway code for Young Road Users, teaches the importance of cycle maintenance and hazard awareness, and provides information and advice on being conspicuous and wearing protective headgear.
