Local Area Agreement & Community Strategy

City of London Community Strategy

Refreshing of the City's Community Strategy in 2007

We have achieved many things through our work together since 2004 and over 2007/08 The City Together is looking to review the Community Strategy 2004-2014 to update where we want to focus our efforts over the coming years. Updating the Strategy now will ensure the delivery of a truly Sustainable Community Strategy for the City of London.

City stakeholders were invited to attend the City's annual stakeholder event on 26 September 2007, at which the Strategy was discussed and delegates discussed their ideas in workshops.

Vision and themes

The Strategy's objectives are grouped into eight themes. Each of the themes contains key objectives and actions. These will be pursued by service providers operating in the City. Achievement of the objectives will help to enhance the quality of life for everyone in the City of London. Click here to find out more information about each of the themes.

VISION: The City of London will build on its success as the world’s leading international financial and business centre, and will maintain high quality, accessible and responsible services benefiting its communities, its neighbours, London and the nationA World Class City; A Skilled and Learning City; Good Transport for a Thriving City; A Clean, Pleasant and Attractive City; A Healthy City; A Safer City; A Vibrant and Culturally Rich City; An Inclusive and Outward Looking City

Who has been involved?

Development of the Strategy has been overseen by The City Together. It has also involved a large number of additional service providers and representatives of the City’s communities, many of whom have played a key part in developing the Strategy’s themes. The City of London has coordinated the development of the new Strategy.

Implementing the Community Strategy

Theme sub-groups are overseeing each of the Strategy's themes. The sub-groups are made up of a range of service providers who are either already operating in or looking to operate in the City, plus representatives of the City's business and residential communities. The sub-groups' work is ongoing, and will continue to push for the achievement of their theme's objectives. If you are interested in finding out more about a sub-group, or would like to get involved, email us.

Local Area Agreement

Successful negotiation of the City of London’s Local Area Agreement

A major agreement, called the Local Area Agreement (LAA), has been signed by the City of London Corporation and The City Together (TCT) with central Government.

What is a local area agreement (LAA)?

The aim of the LAA is to improve outcomes for the business and residential communities within the City of London as well as build on the services that are provided to London and the nation.

An LAA is a three year agreement that addresses a wide range of issues including: children and young people, health, older people, the environment, inward investment and building a safer and stronger community within the City of London.

The City of London Corporation has worked closely with its partners on The City Together to formulate the agreement. It is a key partnership document encouraging partners to look at new ways they are delivering services and how there may be improvements.

The City of London LAA focuses on some of the key priorities in the City of London's Community Strategy. The agreement includes a set of indicators and targets by which to measure success. Some of these targets are set by central Government and some of them are where the City of London has agreed to ‘stretch’ performance. To help achieve these stretched targets, the City of London local area will receive a pump priming grant of £731,928. On achievement of all of the stretch targets at the end of the agreement (2010), the City of London local area will receive a performance reward grant of up to £2,710,845. This performance reward grant will be reinvested into the priorities identified within the Community Strategy and agreed by TCT Board.
