Blooming City wins more awards

The City of London Corporation has done better than ever at the 2007 London in Bloom Awards. The City received a Silver Gilt award for the overall standards of horticulture, sustainability, cleanliness and biodiversity; first place in the Denys Hodder Shield for Business Premises - for Inner Temple; and the Best Floral Display Award. The City Corporation was also a finalist in the Public Parks & Open Spaces Award, picking up third place for Cleary Garden.

On receiving the awards, at a special ceremony held at the Emirates Stadium, City Gardens Manager Martin Rodman said: "This is the greatest number of awards that the City Gardens Team has collected in recent years. The whole team has worked really hard throughout the year to achieve high standards of maintenance and project work and I am really pleased that this has been recognised through the ‘In Bloom’ competitions."

The City of London manages over 150 gardens, churchyards, parks and plazas across the Square Mile for the benefit of the City’s residents, workers and visitors.

The judges of the London in Bloom competition said of the City’s parks and gardens: "Plant selection and design are the horticultural equivalent of high art. The City is also leading the way on climate change issues working with the community, business and visitors. We were impressed and are pleased to award a very high Silver Gilt Award. We were particularly impressed with the wide range of quality displays from pubs, restaurants and business."
