City of London Police named UK's lead economic crime force

The City of London has welcomed the decision of the government’s 2007 Comprehensive Spending Review which has named the City of London Police as the lead agency in the fight against fraud and economic crime across the UK.

City of London Policy Chairman, Michael Snyder, said;

"I am delighted that the Government has decided to make the City of London Police the lead force in the country for tackling fraud and economic crime.

“Based in the world's leading international finance centre, the Square Mile, it has just the right specialist knowledge and expertise for this work.

“The City of London Corporation, as the City's Police Authority, will shortly be deciding its own additional funding for this vital work," he said.

The government’s boost for the City of London Police’s economic crime squad will see extra detectives working on serious fraud cases and the formation of a National Fraud Reporting Centre to monitor and track economic crime trends in the UK.
