Lord Mayor's Banquet 

At Guildhall, off Gresham Street, London EC2
6.00 pm on Monday 12 November 2007

The Lord Mayor’s Banquet is held in honour of the immediate past Lord Mayor and is the first to be hosted by the new Lord Mayor of the City of London. Traditionally, it is at this Banquet when the Prime Minister makes a major World Affairs speech. The speakers at the Banquet this year will be:

  • Lord Mayor – Alderman David Lewis (Lord Mayor from 9 Nov 2007)
  • Prime Minister – Rt Hon Gordon Brown MP
  • Archbishop of Canterbury – Dr Rowan Williams
  • Late Lord Mayor – Alderman John Stuttard (Lord Mayor until 9 Nov 2007)
  • Secretary of State for Justice and Lord Chancellor – Rt Hon Jack Straw MP

The approximate timings for the event are as follows:

  1. Arrivals on Guildhall Porch - From 6.00 pm
  2. Reception in the Art Gallery - From 6.30pm
  3. Procession into Dinner in Great Hall - Approx 6.55 pm
  4. Lord Mayor’s Speech in Great Hall - Approx 8.30 pm
  5. The Prime Minister’s Speech - Approx 8.45pm
  6. Archbishop’s, Late Lord Mayor’s and Lord Chancellor’s speeches  - From 9.35pm

Media facilities:
Due to space constraints, media access to the event will operate on a pooled basis.

At the Banquet:

  • Accredited media attending the event are asked to arrive at the Guildhall between 5.30pm and 6.00pm on Monday 12 November.
  • Members of the media should report to the Main Reception at Guildhall (corner of Gresham Street and Aldermanbury, EC2), where they will be given their security passes.
  • Please ensure that all members of the media are suitably dressed in dark lounge suits or the equivalent for ladies. Please also ensure that all mobile telephones and pagers are switched off throughout the event (both inside and outside).
  • Except for pre-arranged car parking arrangements for pooled broadcast media, there will be no parking facilities available.
