City of London Corporation wins top marks in Audit Commission
inspection
London and the UK's "business authority for the business
district" has been awarded top marks in an Audit Commission
inspection of how it works with communities and partnerships and
demonstrates ever-better results across all it does.
The result of a parallel inspection of the City of London
Corporation's children and young people's services was also top
marks.
Michael Snyder, elected Chairman of the Policy and Resources
Committee, said, "These excellent results reflect the improvements
made to how the organisation is managed, how we work with our
partners, and how we deliver services. We can still improve further
but these results establish a bench-mark for the future and stand
as a tribute to the staff of the City of London Corporation."
The publication today (December 21) of the Corporate Assessment
report gives the City the highest score (4) following an inspection
in September. The Corporate Assessment examined how well the City
of London Corporation engages with and leads its communities,
delivers community priorities in partnership with others, and
ensures continuous improvement across a range of its activities.
This score is an improvement (from a score of 3) over the City's
previous Corporate Assessment in 2002.
The inspection report says: "The City of London is performing
strongly. Ambitions are set well beyond the geographical area for
which it has responsibility and are pan-London, national and
international in their scope. ... It is a partner in the success of
the City as the world's leading international financial and
business centre."
The City of London Corporation was also awarded a top score of 4
for the Joint Area Review of services for children and young
people, carried out at the same time.
The City of London Corporation sustains and promotes the
UK-based financial services industry whose heart is the Square Mile
geographical area for which the City Corporation provides local
authority services. It also provides a number of special services
for London and the UK (see notes and website below).
An Audit Commission report on the performance of all its
services is to be made next February.
