The Pink Panther car The one and only, truly original Pink Panther car...

...will be parked on Hampstead Heath on Red Nose Day as part of the City of London Corporation’s fundraising activities for Comic Relief.

Currently on sale for the first time via eBay, the outrageous Pink-mobile cruised down the boulevard during every opening sequence of the 1960’s-70’s kids’ TV series ‘The Pink Panther Show’, pulling up with the gullwing doors swinging open to let out Inspector Clouseau and the rinky-dink Panther sleuth into the Hollywood Chinese Theatre to watch their presented spectacle.

The Pink Panther This custom-made limo was the only Pink Panther car ever produced, built in 1969 by legendary Californian car customiser Jay Ohrberg whose other iconic Hollywood motors include the open-top Batmobile from the 1992 film ‘Batman Returns’, The Dukes of Hazzard’s ‘General Lee’ and the cop car in 1987 flick ‘Robocop’. Still broadcast around the world today, the nostalgic TV show centres on the heroic, moral cartoon cat with pink fur and the manners of an English aristocrat who fallibly battles against villains together with the French bumbling detective. The cartoon character was originally developed for the opening credits of ‘The Pink Panther’ film (1963) starring Peter Sellers, and this Oscar-winning animated short was one of the first experiments to mix live action with animation.

Fundraising festivities for Comic Relief start at 10.30am near Parliament Hill café on the Heath with roving street entertainers and a band to amuse the crowd. The Pink Panther car will be available to the public for photo opportunities in exchange for donations from 10.30am and throughout the day.

Belsize Park-based online auctioneer experts Flogit4u.com are managing the eBay sale of the Pink Panther car, having attracted over 100,000 unique users during last year’s record-breaking UK eBay sale of an Enzo Ferrari. Comments Flogit4U founder Phill Davies “The Pink Panther car has recently been used as a static display at a number of events across the UK and its ability to pull crowds is phenomenal – this one-off item of Hollywood memorabilia is instantly recognisable and appeals to both adults and kids alike. We’re delighted it can be used to help raise funds for Comic Relief on the last day of its auction before it finds another home.”

Founded in 2004, Flogit4U’s team of online auction experts provide a personalised service to businesses, individuals and organisations wishing to sell premium goods online and benefit from the company’s expertise which determines how much an item sells for, or if it sells at all.

The Pink Panther car will be available for press tours from 8.30am on Friday 16 March, near Parliament Hill café on Hampstead Heath.

Bidding for the one and only Pink Panther car on eBay closes at 8.00pm on Monday 20 March 2007.
