Croquet call-out for Hampstead Heath

The City of London Corporation is laying out a public croquet lawn on Hampstead Heath and is calling out for croquet enthusiasts – whether novice or expert – to help create a club.

The new, small lawn (20 by 16 yards) will be on the site of a disused putting green next to the tennis courts at Golders Hill Park and will be prepared and managed by the City Corporation. The facility, which will operate on a trial basis, should be ready for use before the end of May.

The City Corporation is encouraging the establishment of a club to help administer the new facility, to arrange introductory lessons for those new to the game and to organise competitions and other events.

A short information sessions for anyone interested in playing on the Heath will be held on Saturday 19 April from 11am at Golders Hill Park tennis courts. All are welcome – especially those with previous experience or those keen to help get the club going. More information is available from Superintendents’ Office on 020 7332 3322 or email heathcroquet@hotmail.co.uk.
