26 June 2008

New director and board member for Central London Forward

The Central London Forward (CLF) partnership is delighted to announce that following discussions with the Mayor of London, the Deputy Mayor for Government Relations, Ian Clement, has agreed to represent the Mayor on CLF. He will join the CLF Board initially in an advisory capacity.

Ian Clement said: “The Mayor of London and the GLA recognise the significant contribution that Central London makes to the London economy and the particular pressures that it faces. I look forward to a close relationship with CLF working on matters of mutual interest”.

Central London Forward (CLF) is also pleased to announce the appointment of Eric Sorensen as its first full Director. Eric will take forward the fledgling partnership – which will provide a voice for Central London - into a new phase of development.

Eric has spent much of his high profile career in regeneration practice and policy. He joins CLF from the Thames Gateway London Partnership where he has been Chief Executive since January 2004.

Eric will formally take up his position at the beginning of August.

The Chairman of CLF, Sir Michael Snyder (City of London Corporation) said: “We are delighted to welcome Ian Clement to our Board and look forward to a productive relationship with him, the Mayor and the GLA family.  We are also most fortunate to have attracted such an experienced and high calibre Director. I am confident that Eric Sorensen will prove an energetic leader for Central London Forward at this crucial and exciting stage of its development. He is extremely well placed to enable CLF to influence policy makers on matters of importance to Central London.  I look forward to working with him.”

Notes to editors

Central London Forward: a cross sectoral partnership led by six Central London local authorities which has been established to provide a voice for Central London. CLF seeks to influence policy makers on matters of mutual interest to the communities and businesses of Central London.  It does this by engaging with all those who have an interest in Central London and by using research evidence to lobby and promote the case for Central London. The City of London Corporation – which has the powers and duties of a local authority - acts as the contracting body which means it employs the staff and manages administrative arrangements on behalf of the contributing partners.

The Board meets three times per year. Sir Michael Snyder (City of London) was elected Chairman of CLF at its first Board meeting held on 8th November 2007.  James Kempton, Leader LB Islington, was elected Vice Chairman.

Eric Sorensen: at the Thames Gateway London Partnership Eric worked with boroughs and other organisations to promote sustainable development in Europe’s largest regeneration area. As Chief Executive of the London Development Partnership – the voluntary partnership which paved the way for the London Development Agency - Eric was instrumental in the formation of London’s first economic development strategy. Prior to that Eric was also Chief Executive of the London Docklands Development Corporation. Eric began his career as a Whitehall civil servant in the then Department of the Environment working on housing and urban regeneration policy.
