West Ham Park awarded best management in the country
West Ham Park was awarded a special innovation award for
management at the Green Flag Award ceremony last Thursday (24
July).
This is the first year that the Green Flag award scheme has
introduced the prestigious special awards for innovation which were
given to only seven parks and green spaces across the country.
The team at West Ham Park was recognised for its commitment to
maintaining the Park to the highest possible standard. This was
illustrated by the production of a site-based manual. The manual is
applauded as an example of best practice to the industry because it
is written so that it can be clearly understood and adopted by
staff across all the teams.
Stella Currie, Chairman of the Committee of Managers of West Ham
Park said:
"It is wonderful that the City of London’s West Ham Park has been
given this Special Award for Innovation in the management category
and I am delighted. It is a testament to the hard work and
dedication of staff members. We are continually grateful to local
volunteers, particularly the Friends of West Ham Park, for what
they do in the Park for the benefit of the whole community."
Don Lawson, Superintendent West Ham Park said, “This award is a
tremendous achievement for the staff at West Ham Park.
Geraldine King, Parks Manager and particularly Luisa Baker, Support
Officer with the help of Team Leaders Richard Allen, Peter Henson
and Darron Pitcher worked extremely hard to produce this valuable
document. Further credit should also go to James McCulloch,
my predecessor, who helped lead the team overall in delivery of
this excellent resource for the park.”
